All jewelry is polished to a mirror finish and the surface is oxidized to produce a thin glass-like coating (passive oxide) to render the jewelry hypoallergenic. Our captive bead rings have all been shaped to a smooth probe-like end which mates well with a same-gauge piercing needle and holds the bead securely. The rings are all cold-formed to retain the natural strength of the steel. No heat is used to bend the rings. BlackStar's barbell shafts are machined from solid stock (no fragile hollow tubes) and are double threaded so both balls may be removed. The disks on our labrets are machined in place. No solder is used in any BlackStar jewelry so you need not worry about a reaction to lead or tin.
